Psalms 3:5
Struck Down But Not Destroyed
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
—2 Cor 4:8-9
Dennis was taken to Albany Medical Center by helicopter from the scene of the accident. He sustained a multitude of injuries including four breaks in his right leg, 13 broken ribs, three breaks in his nose, a collapsed lung, a severe laceration to his head and lacerations to both ankles and his liver. He has since had surgery on the broken leg, and nose and surgery for the laceration on his head. In addition he also endured a procedure designed to help promote the healing of his collapsed lung. We are so grateful that he has taken these first steps on a very long road to recovery. While he is improving, and we know many want to visit, he is simply not ready for visitors just yet. He is grateful for everyone’s prayers, indeed we all feel the power of your prayers, as the Lord sustains us each, giving us the strength to stand under the weight of our grief and pain.
Even in the midst of his deep mourning, Dennis has been sharing his faith with his doctors and nurses. We can see the Lord’s hand in his recovery already, and we are all astounded by God’s great mercy. Paul’s words above to the Corinthians bring us great solace as we remember that God did not promise us a life without hardship, but a life without end. As Dennis said today in our visit with him, we are certain that Debbie, Stephanie and Bill“are all in paradise,” beginning in heavenly garments, that new life which cannot be destroyed.
